Ravensara Essential Oil

Ravensara Essential Oil

Ravensara aromatica

Planet: Moon/Mercury

History and Mythology
'Good Leaf' is what the locals call this plant. Ravensara is a wonderful fragrant tree native to the montane rainforest of Madagascar. Its bark, leaves and nuts all emit a scent resembling that of Clove, Aniseed and Camphor. Local people have long appreciated its medicinal properties. Although the essential oil was first distilled about a hundred years ago it only came to aromatherapist's attention some 25 years ago and it is still not very widespread. It seems a shame, as this oil is truly exceptional. However, there is also a lot of confusion as there is another species which is related and has the confusingly similar name 'Ravintsara', yet has completely different properties and a different smell as well. Such confusions can be dangerous - which is why it is so important to know that you can trust your source of oils.

Magical use:
Ravensera is strongly protective and cleansing and can be used for healing work. It is great for diffusing in sick rooms to help banish the demons of disease. It can be used to clear the mind and help focus on a magical intent. It promotes courage and helps overcome anxieties and fears.

A light, gentle, slightly sweet, camphor-like, woody scent. Blends well with Bay, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Clary Sage, Cedarwood, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Geranium, Frankincense, Ginger, Grapefruit, Lavender, Marjoram, Pine, Rosemary Sandalwood, Tea Tree, Thyme and Lemon.

Every household should have a bottle of this wonderful oil, which is one of the strongest disease fighters of all the essential oils available. It is particularly effective against infectious virus diseases, such as chickenpox, shingles and herpes, virulent flus and even mononucleosis. It is expectorant and can be used for catarrhal conditions of the upper respiratory tract as well as for cough, bronchitis and whooping cough.

** Familiarize yourself thoroughly with the properties and uses of each individual oil you intend to use and take note of all cautions.

** Never take essential oils internally! *

** Never allow essential oils to enter the eyes.

** If you are pregnant, consult a qualified aromatherapist for suitability and safety of specific oils. Many oils should not be used during pregnancy, some only need to be avoided for the first 3 - 4 months, others may be helpful during labour, but may pose a risk during the months before.

** If you suffer from serious medical conditions such as (but not exclusively) high blood pressure, cancer, thrombosis, varicose veins or epilepsy, consult a qualified aromatherapist for professional advice on recommended oils and dosages.
** We support the notion of people taking responsibility for their own well being. However, if symptoms persist or re-occur or you are suffering from a serious medical condition, or if you are presently taking prescription drugs, we recommend that you consult a qualified doctor or practitioner before attempting to help yourself. Look for a practitioner/doctor who you can trust and who is prepared to work with you in exploring natural health alternatives.
