CEDAR

There are many trees known as ‘Cedar’, which may or may not be botanically related. Most commonly they are either species of Cedrus, Thuja or Juniperus. Cedar is sacred in many traditions around the world. It is regarded as a tree of life and a bridge between the worlds. Ceremonially it is burnt as an offering to the Sun Gods and to help prayers rise to the heavens. It is also used for purification, protection, and prosperity. Our Cedar comes from North America. Taos Sage and Cedar are often used to deck out the floor of sweat lodges and may be burnt on the hot stones.

Since people first came together to honour the Gods and spirits of nature they used gums, resins and fragrant herbs to bring them closer to the divine beings and to give fragrant wings to their prayers. Every culture has their own sacred herbs that are particular to its region, yet, precious incense herbs and gums have also always been traded far beyond their country of origin.
