Although in the same family as Red Ginseng, Siberian Ginseng belongs to a different genus. Unscrupulous traders have sometimes used it to adulterate Red Ginseng, which is a good deal more expensive. Siberian Ginseng has mostly been studied by Russian researchers, who had observed that Reindeer that ate the root at the onset of winter managed to better sustain themselves through the dark season than those had not eaten the root. Siberian Ginseng is one of the few herbs that can help the body to deal with radiation. In Russia it was given to people who have been affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

Siberian Ginseng is primarily used as a tonic to help the body adjust to environmental, physical and emotional stress. It regulates the endocrine system, thus normalising blood pressure and blood sugar levels, while improving the immune response.
